Tavoitteena on tuottaa yhteen koottua tietoa eri aineistonkeruumenetelmistä.
Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin kuvailevana kirjallisuuskatsauksena. Aineistoa haettiin Cinahl-,
A mixed method is a combination of qualitative
and quantitative research. When researching children, the research ethics emphasize
slightly different things than when researching adults.
The purpose of the thesis was to describe the usage of previous research data: what kinds of data collection methods have been used in research of children and how ethics is described in research. The objective of the thesis was to compile information about different data collection methods.
The thesis was implemented as a descriptive literature review. Material was retrieved from
the Cinahl, Elektra and Medic databases as well as from Google Scholar. Twelve studies
met the admission criteria.
The studies approved for the literature review described four different data collection methods. The methods included an interview, a form, observation and the method of empathy which includes storytelling, stories and drawings. In seven studies, more than one data collection method had been used. Seven of the studies were qualitative, one was a quantitative study, and four had used the mixed method. Studies highlighted ethical principles, research permits and anonymity, s well as the children's right to be heard. Some studies highlighted the child as vulnerable and in need of protection. Therefore, the researcher should have good morals and an ethical responsibility. Studies showed that children were seen as a subject and not just an object, so they were seen as active actors. Studies also highlighted that children have the right to be heard and to influence decisions about them according to their level of development.
