Konsolidering - Utmaningar för att uppnå kostnadseffektiva LCL frakter från Kina till Finland

Abstract

Konsolidering är ett viktigt verktyg i en leveranskedja. Ändå finns det få studier om varför det uppstår tom luft i konsolideringsprocessen. Syftet med examensarbetet är att undersöka vilka saker bidrar till att det uppstår tom last vid konsolidering av leveranser från Kina till Finland med LCL containrar. Arbetet är avgränsat till konsolideringen av leveranser i en LCL container som lastas i Shanghai. I leveransprocessen är arbetet avgränsat till när speditören tar emot ett uppdrag från sin kund till att LCL containern stängs. Fokuset på arbetet är att studera händelserna som tidsmässigt sker inom denna del ur en speditörs synvinkel. Den empiriska delen sker arbetet svar på forskningsfrågan dvs. utmaningar för att uppnå kostnadseffektiva LCL frakter från Kina till Finland. Metoden som man har tillämpat i arbetet är en kvalitativ studie i form av semistrukturerade intervjuer med respondenter från en speditör. Samtliga respondenter har lång erfarenhet om konsolidering. Intervjuerna utfördes per telefon på grund av Covid-19 pandemin. Resultatet indikerar att informationsflödet mellan säljaren och avgångslandets agent har brister och detta leder till att en LCL container inte blir effektivt lastad. Respondenterna ansåg att det behövs en bättre kommunikation mellan avgångslandet och ankomstlandet för att skapa en fungerande och en effektiv konsolideringsprocess.

Consolidation is an important tool in a supply chain. Nevertheless, there are few studies on why empty air is created in the consolidation process. The purpose of the thesis is to study which things contribute to the creation of an empty load in consolidating deliveries from China to Finland with LCL containers. The work is limited to the consolidation of deliveries in a LCL container that is loaded in Shanghai. In the delivery process, the work is limited to the time when the forwarder receives an order from a customer to the moment when the LCL container is closed. The focus of the work is to study the events that occur within this period from a freight forwarder's point of view. In the empirical part of the work, the study looks for answers to the research questions, i.e. challenges to achieve a cost-effective LCL freight from China to Finland. The method that is applied in the work is a qualitative study with semi-structured interviews. All the respondents have a long experience in consolidation. The interviews were conducted by telephone due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The result indicates that the communication between the seller and the country of departure agent is deficient and this can result to an LCL container not being efficiently loaded. The respondents considered that better communication is needed between the country of departure and the country of arrival to create a functioning and an efficient consolidation process.
