Kulje vierelläni : saattohoito-opas omaisille

Abstract

Elämän loppuvaiheen hoitoa ovat palliatiivinen hoito sekä saattohoito. Nämä eroavat toisistaan siten, että palliatiivisessa hoidossa keskitytään parantumattomasti sairaan potilaan oireiden hoitamiseen, kun taas saattohoidossa keskitytään kuolevan potilaan hoitoon. Erityisesti saattohoidossa omaisten ja läheisten huomioimisen, avun sekä tuen tarve kasvavat ja hoitotyössä tulee huomioida entistä enemmän potilaan läheisiä, ja heidän ottamistaan mukaan potilaan loppuvaiheen hoitoon. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli tehdä saattohoito –opas Naantalin terveyskeskuksen osaston saattohoitopotilaiden omaisille. Opinnäytetyössä tuotettavan saattohoito-oppaan tavoitteena on lisätä omaisten tietoa saattohoidosta.

Opinnäytetyössä on käsitelty saattohoitoa monipuolisesti, niin lääkityksen, kivun, ravitsemuksen, kuin henkisen ja psyykkisen voinnin kautta. Tietoa aiheista haettiin käypähoito- suositusten, alan kirjallisuuden sekä ammatillisten tutkimusten kautta. Lisäksi perehdyttiin hyvän oppaan tekemiseen ja selkeään ulosantiin. Tarve oppaalle tuli siitä, ettei käytössä ollut opasta, joka olisi suunnattu omaisille.

Opas keskittyy siihen, miten omaiset voivat osallistua potilaan hoitoon ja viime hetkien tukemiseen. Se tuo tietoa loppuvaiheen hoitojen vähentämisestä sekä ymmärrystä omaisille, miten kehon toiminnot hiljalleen hiipuvat. Ideana oppaalle on se, että omaiset ymmärtäisivät paremmin mikä auttaa potilasta ja mikä taas aiheuttaa enemmän oireita tai kipuja.

Opas tukee hoitohenkilökunnan antamaa ohjausta ja se koottiin pohjautuen uusimpiin saattohoito-ohjeistuksiin sekä tutkittuun näyttöön. Oppaan sisältö etenee loogisesti aiheesta seuraavaan, siihen koottiin konkreettisia asioita, joilla omainen voi auttaa läheistään ja teksti on helposti ymmärrettävä, jotta omaiset pystyvät sisäistämään vaikeita asioita myös surun keskellä.

The end-of-life care consists of palliative care and hospice care. The difference between these the is that palliative care is focused on helping with the symptoms of the disease in dying patients, whereas hospice care is simply taking care of the dying patients. Especially in hospice care it is even more important to notice and take care of the patients relatives, as well as supporting them and helping them to be part of taking care of their loved ones.

The purpose of this thesis is to write a guidebook for hospice care at Naantali health-center for the dying patients close ones. This guidebook is meant to bring more information about hospice care for the relatives and loved ones of the patients.

This thesis looks at many aspects of hospice care, like medicine, pain, nutrition, spiritual- and physical health as well. The information of the subjects has been sourced from Käypähoito, literature of hospice care and from professional research. And it has also been developed with them aim of making a good and easy to read guidebook. The subscriber of this thesis is Naantali health-center. They need this guide because there are not any existing guides for relatives about hospice care.

This guide is focused on how the people close to the patient can take part in nursing and supporting at the stage of hospice care. This guide brings knowledge and information about the end of life treatments and how the body stops working step by step when getting closer to death. The purpose of this guide is to help the nearest people to the patient to understand which treatments are helping the patients and which are causing more pain or symptoms.

The guide supports the spoken guidance from the staff at the health-center and it has been written with reference to the newest hospice care guidances and it is based on facts. The text on the guide goes logically from topic to topic and it has concrete points which are easy to use for the persons close by. As well as this text is also easy to read and understand, so that it is accessible for all, even during a period of grieving.
