Tiivistelmä
Opiskelijavastaavilla on tärkeä rooli työyksiköittensä opiskelijaohjauksen toteutuksessa. Sairaanhoitajalle kuuluvien perustöiden ohella opiskelijavastaavat ovat vastuussa opiskelijan kliinisen harjoittelujakson suunnittelusta, toteuttamisesta sekä harjoitteluyksikön opiskelijaohjauksen kehittämisestä. Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää, mitä tehtäviä opiskelijavastaaville kuuluu ja millaisia kokemuksia heillä on opiskelijan kliinisen harjoittelun ohjauksesta. Tavoitteena on tuottaa tietoa, jota voidaan hyödyntää opiskelijavastaavien toimenkuvan kehittämisessä ja heidän työnsä tukemisessa.
Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin kuvailevana kirjallisuuskatsauksena. Aineistohaussa hyödynnettiin Cinahl-, Medic-, Medline- ja PubMed-tietokantoja. Hakusanoina käytettiin termejä student mentor, student coordinator, tutor nurse perspective. Hakua täydennettiin manuaalisesti. Kaiken kaikkiaan julkaisuja oli yhteensä 139, joista katsaukseen valittiin 12. Aineisto analysoitiin sisällön analyysin avulla ja saatujen tulosten pohjalta laadittiin lisäksi haastattelukysymyksiä toimeksiantajan käyttöön. Opinnäytetyön toimeksiantajana toimi Tyks Sydänkeskus.
Kirjallisuuskatsauksen tulosten perusteella eri sairaanhoitopiirien laatimat opiskelijavastaavien tehtävät noudattavat samoja linjoja. Tehtäväkuvausten erot näkyivät siinä, miten käytännönläheisesti opiskelijavastaaville kuuluvat tehtävät oli ilmoitettu. Opiskelijaohjaukseen suhtaudutaan positiivisesti ja ohjaajilla on harjoittelujaksojen ohjauksesta pääsääntöisesti hyviä kokemuksia. Ohjauskokemuksiin vaikuttivat eniten ohjaajan onnistumisen tunne, aika, tuki, tehtävän kuormittavuus ja palautteen antaminen.
Johtopäätöksinä voi todeta, että opiskelijavastaavilla on tärkeä rooli yksikkönsä opiskelijaohjauksen taustalla. Suurin osa opiskelijavastaavien tehtävistä ulottuu opiskelijan suorittaman harjoittelujakson ulkopuolelle suunnittelu- ja kehittämistehtäviin. Ohjaajilla on suurimmaksi osaksi myönteisiä kokemuksia opiskelijoiden ohjauksesta. Ohjaajat kaipaavat kuitenkin enemmän tukea ohjausjakson aikana. Jatkotutkimuksissa voisi selvittää opiskelijavastaavien kokemuksia nimenomaan Suomessa ja miten opiskelijaohjauksen vastuualue koetaan eri sairaanhoitopiirien välillä. Aikaisempaa tutkimusta opiskelijavastaavien tehtävistä tai kokemuksista on tehty vähän. Student coordinators have an important role in carrying out the mentoring in their work units. In addition to carrying out the basic tasks of their everyday work the student coordinators are responsible for planning, executing and development of the guided clinical practice. This thesis aims to find out what concrete tasks the student coordinators have related to the guided clinical practice and what kind of experiences they have. The goal of this thesis is also to gain knowledge that can be applied to support and further develop the role of the student coordinators in the guided clinical practice.
The thesis was executed as a descriptive literature review. Cinahl, Medic, Medline and PubMed databases were utilised in the search for literature. As headwords, terms such as mentor, student coordinator, tutor nurse perspective were used. The search was manually completed. Altogether the search resulted in 139 publications, of which 12 were chosen for the literature review. The chosen articles went through analysis of the subject matter. Interview questions were conducted for the use of the principal. The principal of this thesis is the Heart Centre of TYKS.
The results confirm that different hospital districts follow the same principles on what kind of tasks the student coordinators are responsible for. Student coordinators in different hospital districts had dissenting opinions on how the responsibilities of their role had been communicated. In general, the student coordination is viewed as a useful practice and in general the student coordinators have good experiences of the guided clinical practice. As a result of the literature review five head themes were recognized: the student coordinator’s feeling of success, time, support, workload and feedback.
It can be concluded that student coordinators have an extremely important role in their unit's guided clinical practice. A big part of the student coordinators work extends to tasks outside of the guided clinical practice as planning and development takes place outside of the practice period. In general, the mentors have positive experiences of their tasks related to student coordination. Many of the student coordinators would wish for more support. For further studies it could be useful to research the experiences of the student coordinators specifically in Finland and how the experiences vary between the different hospital districts in Finland as there is only a little previous research on these matters.
