Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this study was to find out how the Congolese refugees experience their health as well as
healthcare services. The aim of the study was to add these people knowledge, local authorities, health
providers, social workers when planning care or services for refugees.
The research method used to implement the study was qualitative method. In this study, standardized
open-ended interview approach was used. Study participants consisted of three females and two males.
Data collection lasted two weeks and a content analysis was used to analyze the data.
The findings of this study demonstrated that participants came to Jyväskylä with a variety of health
problems, including mental and physical problems and longstanding undiagnosed chronic illness.
The findings of this study also indicated that most of the participants were satisfied with general care
they received since they came to Jyväskylä but, nonetheless, the findings revealed that few of them were
still complaining about the health care system which they described being slow.
The results of this study could be utilized in providing relevant information to whoever will need to
conduct further research. Results could also be useful to Jyväskylä immigration office, Central Finland
hospital and other stake holders.
Further research is recommended that could involve a broad participation of the healthcare providers,
and thus some knowledge, not only Congolese refugees’ perspective but also health professionals’
perspective would be acquired.
