Tiivistelmä
In today’s business operations, there is an increase in the use of information technology to deliver on the constantly changing customer demands resulting in the high investment in IT infrastructure within enterprises in order to gain competitive advantage, across industries. Nevertheless, these investments call for the need of IT transformation projects and assessments in existing infrastructures to evaluate its entirety before initiating any changes.
In this thesis, the practice and theory of assessment is presented to evaluate components of technology infrastructure in enterprises. A particular aim is to elaborate on the functions and benefits of assessing information technology components such as computer servers, networks, operation systems, storage devices, software applications and other computing hardware, within any IT transformation project.
The combination of the research theory, methodology and best practices highlighted in this paper is meant to assist business managers, engineers and IT decision makers understand the significance of assessment and the value it creates in exchange for money and time.
Finally, it serves as a theoretical guide on how to effectively conduct assessments within enterprises.
