Tiivistelmä
This research aims to describe the performances of three companies (Aeroflot, Finnair, and Lufthansa) in the past and their changes in 2020 when the worldwide pandemic hit the industry. The airlines have different sizes, scales of operations, and global networks. Their performances and recovery strategies have been evaluated and compared between each other.
The theoretical part provides reporting guidelines to complete the analyses of the financial statements of the companies. The comparison of the airlines has been made based on several financial ratios. The financial crisis theory explains the prerequisites and outcomes of a recession. It prolongs with the main recovery shapes.
The analysis of data was conducted based on different research methods. The airlines’ re-sults of 2015-2019 and 9 months of 2020 were overviewed and compared based on the ratios. The recovery trends helped to estimate what scenario each airline would have in the nearest future. All of the scenarios were justified based on the strategies each airline provided.
The thesis concludes with the descriptions of the results, where each Investigative Question receives an answer. Finally, it finished with key findings, recommendations for further research, and reflection on learning.
