This thesis has been commissioned by Marine Alutech Service Oy that is a subsidiary of a shipyard called Marine Alutech Oy Ab. Marine Alutech Group manufactures fast patrol and other work boats, and Marine Alutech Service Oy does the after marketing and spare part service. Now the Marine Alutech Group grows with an e-commerce store.
The main objective of this thesis is to research how the warehousing should be done when the business grows. The research of this thesis was both qualitative and quantitative. In this thesis is researched the consumers’ preferences of delivery time and how do they want the orders to be delivered utilizing quantitative research method. Qualitative research was used to gain an understanding what kind of a warehouse functions well in a bigger scale.
The first chapter is focusing on introducing the business and the thesis objective. The second chapter introduces the thesis plan, research methods, and the literature review that is used as theoretical framework. The third chapter introduces the results of the research done, both quantitative and qualitative, and fourth chapter concentrates to the research of possible rented premises. The fifth chapter is a short guide for risk analysis. Finally, in sixth chapter will be discussion and recommendations.
