Stroke means a blood cloth or a bleed that occurs in the brain. Stroke affects up to 25000 people every year in Finland. To recognize the symptoms and get treatment fast reduces the amount of brain tissue that dies and the complications after can be milder.
The aim with this study is to try to describe the emotions stroke patients and their relatives during the period of illness. The study is a qualitative literature study based on seventeen (17) stories divided in three books. The stories are about how it was to become ill and the life after, the complications the patients have gotten and the new everyday they now live.
The study is focused on how the stroke patients have been treated, how the rehabilitation is best supported and how you can support the relatives. For theoretical standing point is Dorothea Orems selfcare theory used. The results highlight how patients and relatives have been treated and the support they have received during the illness, both positive and negative stories emerge. And how they would like to be treated during the illness.
