Tiivistelmä
The thesis investigates the current situation of the drone industry in Finland, and what issues and benefits the professionals from the field face currently. The qualitative research is done through reading scientific literature as well as interviewing recognised professionals from AirMap and Traficom.
The objective of the research is to examine the current issues and benefits of the drone industry in Finland, as well as see what developments could be adopted for the operations to keep growing at a fast pace. The aim is to provide the professionals with knowledge and ideas, that could help them to improve their business and operations.
The researcher additionally studies validity and reliability regarding the research, to ensure the good quality of the thesis. Also, confidentiality is taken seriously in this research. As well, the correct research method is chosen well before the research begins, so that the topic is covered most efficiently.
The results from the current literature clearly show that the professionals are mostly concerned about the upcoming EU regulation and the airspace control between unmanned and manned aviation. These concerns were also found in the interviewees from AirMap and Traficom. In addition, another concern is how to implement the new EU regulation and, simultaneously, make the national regulations keep up with the pace. To tackle these concerns, the researcher proposed the following solutions: (1) clear regulative framework, (2) cooperation, advising, and training, and (3) the development of IT systems.
In conclusion, the data gathered and presented in this research show that the drone industry is facing huge growth, along with some challenges. The new EU regulation and companies’ and industries’ enhancing capabilities mean that more stakeholders are gaining benefit from the drone operations, and see the industry as a future vision in many aspects.
