”Ehkäpä jopa mun työn keskeisin sisältö ja sydämen asia, lapsen turvallisuus” – Lapsen turvallisuuden ja turvallisuuden tunteen tukeminen työntekijöiden näkökulmasta

Abstract

Tässä opinnäytetyössä tutkittiin tekijöitä, joilla on työntekijöiden näkökulmasta katsottuna merkitystä lapsen turvallisuuden tunteen syntymiseen, ylläpitämiseen, edistämiseen sekä vahvistamiseen. Toimeksiantajana toimi Kanta-Hämeen perhetyö ry. Turvallisuus on aiheena ajankohtainen, sillä se liittyy ihmisen kaikkiin elämänalueisiin. Lapsen turvallisuutta tai turvallisuuden tunnetta ei ole tiettävästi aiemmin tutkittu työntekijöiden näkökulmasta. Opinnäytetyön teoriapohjassa käsitellään turvallisuutta, turvallisuuden tunnetta, perusturvallisuuden tunnetta sekä niiden lähikäsitteitä turvattomuutta ja pelkoa. Tutkimuksellinen opinnäytetyö toteutettiin laadullisena tutkimuksena fenomenologis-hermeneuttista tutkimusperinnettä käyttäen sen kokemusperäisyyden vuoksi.

Tutkimusaineisto koostui 7 työntekijän kokemuskirjoituksesta, jotka kerättiin kirjoituskutsun avulla keväällä 2021. Aineisto analysoitiin aineistolähtöisen sisällönanalyysin avulla. Aineiston analyysin kautta muodostui kolme pääluokkaa: vanhemmuuden tukeminen, rakkautta ja rajoja – lapsen turvallisuutta tukeva toiminta sekä Minä pystyn vaikuttamaan – työntekijän rooli.

Tutkimuksen johtopäätöksenä voidaan todeta, että lapsen turvallisuuden tunteeseen vaikuttavat vanhemmuus, lämmin, hyväksyvä ja yksilöllinen kohtaaminen, vuorovaikutus lapsen kanssa, ympärillä olevat toimivat rakenteet sekä työntekijän rooli ja työntekijän konkreettiset toiminnat.

The purpose of this thesis was to examine the factors that are significant for creating, maintaining, enhancing, and strengthening a child' s sense of safety from the employees’ point of view. This thesis was commissioned by an association, Kanta-Hämeen perhetyö ry. The association provides diverse services of child welfare and preventive work for the benefit of families with children in accordance with the Social Welfare Act.

Safety and security are associated with all areas of human life. Child’s security or feeling of safety has not been previously studied from the perspective of the employees. Therefore, the theme of the thesis is a topical issue at the moment. The theoretical background discusses the concepts and phenomena of security, feeling of safety and basic trust, as well as the related concepts of insecurity and fear. The thesis applied a qualitative research method. The selected research method was a phenomenological-hermeneutic tradition of research, which is reflected as the interest and understanding of the employees' personal experiences in the workplace context.

The research material was collected through a narrative inquiry during March-April 2021. The material consists of 7 personal experience narratives written by employees of the association. The data were analyzed by a data-driven content analysis method and resulted in three main categories: supporting parenthood; love and boundaries — activities that support the security of the child; and I can make a difference — the role of the employee.

The study concludes that a child's feeling of safety is influenced by parenting, warm and accepting interaction with the child, the surrounding functional structures, and the role and concrete actions of the employees.
