Teksti on mustalla Arial fontilla kirjoitettuna.
In the high-risk group of substance abuse and related risk behaviour are the children and youth in the child welfare institutions services, ones with behavioural disorders, school dropouts and youth committing crimes. In Finland, 13% of children under the age of 13 and 26% of teenagers over the age of 13 living in foster care are using illegal substances. To narrow down the topic on this final project, we chose to focus on illegal substances, covering different types of cannabis products, medication used for intoxicating purposes, stimulants (e.g. amphetamine, ecstasy and cocaine) as well as adhesives, dissolvents and varnishes used for intoxicating purposes.
The project was commissioned by Tuulensuoja, private child welfare institution unit. The task of the project was to create a guide for child welfare professionals about early recognition of youth substance abuse and how to discuss about it. The aim of the project is to increase the knowledge among child welfare professionals regarding the early recognition of youth’s illegal substance abuse, and to develop the conversation skills of the professionals while discussing the illegal substance abuse topic with the youth.
Result of this project is an illustrated guide for the child welfare professionals of early recognition of youth substance abuse and how to discuss about the topic. The guide includes information about different illegal substances and their frequency, first symptoms of substance abuse and guidelines for discussion. The finished guide consists of 30 slides with sources and is made with Power Point. The structure and colours of the pages differ between the slides. The used font is Arial, in black. The pictures used in the guide are from the free photo directories Unsplash and Microsoft Office 365.
To fit the needs of the commissioner, we produced an updated guide for the child welfare professional's based on reliable sources. The guide was approved by the commissioner and instructing teachers before its release. The content was stated up-to-date and reliable. In addition, for being intended for the child welfare professional's, the guide is useful also for parents of young children, healthcare professionals and others interested on the topic.
