The objective of this qualitative study was to find suitable implementation strategies for confirmation education in Ylöjärvi Parish to strengthen the youth’s commitment to the church. The purpose of this thesis was to develop a three-year strategic plan for confirmation education in the same congregation. This strategy plan is determined to be strongly enriched with strategies to strengthen Church commitment. The literature review answered the research questions of this thesis, and opened space for the strategic question to lead the research from that point on. Based on the results of the literature review, a theory-led case study was conducted. The study aimed to make the strategy plan authentic and unique for Ylöjärvi Parish. The structure for the strategy plan was introduced in the theoretical framework. The framework was authenticated for this particular purpose by combining different strategic models to come together as a strategy plan, which is customer-driven and value-based.
The strategy plan for confirmation education in Ylöjärvi Parish for the years 2022-2024 combined all the assessed knowledge of the literature review, theory and research analysis into a new and innovative tool for development and standardization of knowledge for confirmation education in the congregation. The creation of a strong societal curriculum, the usage of social work of the parish as a differentiator and CRM techniques were identified to be suitable implementation strategies. They were built into the strategy plan as operational plans using benchmarking techniques and innovation. With the help of the research, the outcome of the strategy plan became authentic and unique.
This study utilized existing customer profiles, strategic marketing techniques and local professionalism to build the three-year strategic action plan for confirmation education in the Ylöjärvi Parish, resulting in a strategy plan which is strongly enriched with strategies to strengthen Church commitment. The operational plans are suitable for the given time-span, as markets and customer’s needs change constantly. Market research, evaluation and control of results shall be performed also in the future, as to maintain and develop the creation of life-long relationships through confirmation education in the same congregation even further.
