Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this project was to produce a comprehensive educational material as booklet formation about the fluid balance of elderly patients for SAMK nursing students. The objectives are that nursing students acquire fundamental knowledge about this topic to facilitate their learning experience and applying in clinical placements, besides, the SAMK staff get available good quality evidence-based English materials after this project.
This thesis contains four major parts, theoretical background, purpose and objectives, project plan and implementation, evaluation, and conclusion. The information provided in the theoretical background was: fluid balance in the elderly patients, fluid volume balance, fluid balance assessment, and monitoring, nursing interventions in fluid balance, and booklet as educational material.
The method used in this project was the Hybrid methodology. The hybrid approach is more flexible and suits this project. In the first approach stage, the topic, purpose, and objectives of this thesis were identified by reviewing numerous literature, assigning team roles, and conducting needs assessments; in the second stage, the key concepts were screened and the project booklet was planned to enable the task been broken into the smaller task; then in the third stage, the booklet was implemented as well as corrected by feedbacks which help to improve the project; lastly, the evaluation and conclusion of the whole project were done, besides the thesis report formed.
The booklet handled the theoretical concepts of fluid balance, fluid balance assessment, monitoring, and interventions of fluid balance. It was richened by many positive feedbacks, such as effects between electrolytes, temperature, and fluid balance. Besides, the research ethical issues were fully considered during the entire project. Furthermore, the authors have improved their professional skills in producing booklet materials for nursing students.
