The objective of thesis was a project for the development of well-being at work in the construction company, which was commissioned by Rakennustoimisto Lainio & Laivoranta Oy. The basis of the thesis was development work aimed at developing the occupational well-being of the cooperative company from the current situation. In conjunction with the thesis, tests were conducted on how the exoskeleton -upper body support system acted as an aid to construction work, as well as conclusions were drawn about whether the device had the potential for use on a larger scale. The exoskeleton devices were sponsored in support of the thesis by Exofinland Oy and Hilti Finland Oy.
The theory section of the thesis discusses the composition of well-being at work, safety at work, the importance of ergonomics at work, and the definition of exoskeleton. The theory contribution is followed by a wellness study at work, which includes a wellbeing survey as well as an exoskeleton experiment. Finally, we went through the results as well as conclusions for the project were drawn.
As a starting point for the development of well-being at work, the workers of the cooperative undertaking conducted a well-being survey at work based on which to develop the well-being at work. Job satisfaction surveys previously conducted by Rakennustoimisto Lainio & Laivoranta were used to help the survey. The survey responses were processed in the thesis and based on the responses to the thesis conclusions, a compilation of development proposals that can be used by the collaborative company to develop wellbeing at work if necessary.
Exoskeletons are relatively new devices in the construction industry that are coming to market gradually. As part of the construction works, the equipment in question had been trialled little in Finland, but overseas exoskeletons have been used more widely. Based on the thesis exoskeleton experiment, the device benefits shoulder pains, as well as exertion on the hands in the work above the shoulder line significantly.
