This thesis was commissioned by Turku University of Applied Sciences and its goal was to plan and implement laboratory exercises for mechanical engineering students. These exercises could be utilized to support the theoretical part of teaching in pneumatics as well as hydraulics courses. The topic of the thesis was chosen because the school saw the need to improve the overall set of laboratory exercises. For clarity, each exercise was assembled in its own box, which contained a laptop with the necessary software installed, an Easyport module, a list of required components and an instruction manual that makes it easy for the student to complete the exercises independently.
The thesis started with an inventory, which was used to find out what components were available at the school and whether there was a need to order more parts. After that, the properties of the components as well as the possibilities of use in the exercises were investigated in as versatile way as possible. A key part of the exercises was to be Easyport, which makes it possible to combine the FluidSim simulation program with the world's devices, which means that the physical connection can be controlled directly from a computer.
As a result of the thesis, laboratory exercises were created at five different levels, so that the numbers 1-5 of the exercise would correspond to the grade the student was aiming at. Three exercises dealt with pneumatics and two exercises with hydraulics. The exercises were varied and supported the student's development.
