This study was conducted to investigate the field of cultural diversity at the workplace and company approach towards it. By introducing a theoretical framework, the company clarified the starting point for designing the process. A crucial area of daily activities of JE Henkilöstöpalvelut Oy was investigated and examined, in order to implement a conduct promoting diversity and inclusion.
The research was conducted using a service design mindset. This approach helped to understand the needs and desires of the company’s employees. By using quantitative research (surveys) blue-collar employees’ perception was confronted with the managers’ perception. Design thinking brought involvement of employees and their ideas and expectations in to the co-creation process. This ensures that the developed ideas are relevant. By using the service design tools, stages of the research process were visualized in the stakeholder map, personas, employees journey map and a service blueprint. Conducting prototyping workshops, allowed to receive feedback from the personnel of the company. The research ended with the prototyping phase, as the implementation stage requires a longer time to be assessed properly.
The study found that JE Henkilöstöpalvelut Oy took a desired approach towards diversity and introduced a supportive working environment for the personnel. The company expressed a desire for a future assessment of the implemented activities.
