Without a doubt logistics plays a big role in today’s business world. More and more companies switch their focus from the production to improving their logistics chain. The purpose of this work is at the request of the Finnish education and consult company 4Kasi, to create a case study that deal with the total logistics costs during an international transport mission. The problem in my study is in order to keep the logistic knowledge in Finland at a competitive level there is a need for modern logistics cases that reflect real situations within the area of logistics, that give people and students the knowledge of how important the total logistics costs are to an international shipment. In my theoretical part I will deal with what logistics actually means and what role it plays in today’s world. I will also bring up different costs that are relevant when buying transport and what the price for a transport actually consists of. I will finalize my theoretical part by talking about different means of transport and discuss different packages. To reach my result I will use an explorative method. I will limit my study to only deal with transportation between Kotka and Ankara, Turkey using sea, air and road as methods of transport. The results consist of a case description and a price list. These two documents are needed to solve the two assignments found on the last page of the case description. In order to solve the assignments and come up with a describing solution I will create an Excel template. With the template, I will come up with the most profitable solution seen from both the logistics buyers and the logistics seller’s points of view. Through my results you will become aware of the different costs, which are included in the total logistics costs, in order to affect the final price of a transport and the choice of an economically reasonable alternative. You will also notice the importance of the design of the package in order to possibly lower the total transport costs.
