Meritaimenen (Salmo Trutta M. Trutta) radiotelemetriaseuranta Tenojoessa 2011-2012

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on selvittää meritaimenen vaelluskäyttäytyminen ja taimenien levittäytyminen Tenojoen vesistössä. Opinnäytetyössä tarkastellaan Tenojoen vesistössä vuonna 2011 radiotelemetrialähettimin merkittyjen taimenten (Salmo trutta) liikkeitä. Opinnäytetyö liittyy Riista- ja kalatalouden tutkimuslaitoksen hankkeeseen ”Voisiko Tenojoen kalastuskautta pidentää? Meritaimenen biologia ja taimenkantojen hyödyntämismahdollisuudet”.

Tutkimusalueena oli koko Tenojoen vesistö. Alueen koko riippui seurattavien taimenten liikkeistä. Taimenten pyynti ja merkintä suoritettiin 20.5.2011–15.9.2011. Pyyntijakson aikana merkittiin radiolähettimin 43 taimenta. Seurannassa käytettiin kymmentä kiinteää seuranta-asemaa, käsipaikannusta sekä autopaikannusta. Seurannasta koottu aineisto auttaa ymmärtämään meritaimenen liikkeitä eri vuodenaikoina Tenojoen vesistössä.

Tuloksista käy ilmi, että meritaimenen vaelluskäyttäytyminen eroaa paljolti paremmin tunnetusta lohen (Salmo salar) vaelluskäyttäytymisestä. Aineiston perusteella voi havaita meritaimenen vuodenkierrossa kaksi tärkeää vaellushuippua, joista toinen tapahtuu keväisin ja toinen syksyisin. Vaelluksissa on havaittavissa kahdentyyppistä liikettä: ylävirtaan kohti lisääntymis- ja talvehtimisalueita sekä alavirtaan kohti syönnös- ja talvehtimisalueita.

This thesis studies the movement of trout (Salmo trutta) marked with radio tags in 2011 in the the River Teno. The thesis is a part of the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute project “Could the fishing season be continued in the River Teno? Sea-trout biology and exploitation possibilities”. The objective of the thesis is to clarify the sea trout migration behaviour and dispersal in the River Teno.

The study area covered the whole River Teno water system depending on movement of the tagged sea trout. Catching and tagging of fish took place between 20.5.2011–15.9.2011. During the catching period 43 trout were tagged with radio transmitters. In the tracking of the tagged trout ten fixed automatic tracking stations operating all year round as well as weekly manual tracking were used. The tracking data helps to understand the sea trout migration behavior and movements during different seasons in the River Teno.

The results show that the sea trout migration behaviour differs a lot from the much better known migration behaviour of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Two important migration peaks of sea trout can be observed from the data, one of which takes place in the spring and the other in the autumn.

During the migrations two kinds of movement can be observed: towards upper parts of the river to the breeding and wintering areas and towards lower parts of the river to the feeding and wintering areas.
