Övriga klimakteriesymtom förekommer i olika hög utsträckning hos informanterna.
The aim of this study was to investigate whether women experience a change in their sexual function in connection to the menopause, if they had received preventive information regarding possible changes associated with the menopause as well as support and help when needed.
The study was carried out through qualitative interviews with five women. The collected data was analyzed through a qualitative content analysis and compared to previous research on the subject. The results were interpreted with the Betty Neuman System Model as a guide.
The results show that every woman has a different experience of the hormonal changes that comes with menopause. Positive and negative changes in sexual functions occur in various degrees. Some women experience themselves as more affected whereas some women do not experience any significant changes in their sexual function. Other menopausal symptoms occur in varying degree in the informants. The majority have not gotten any preventive information from the healthcare profession regarding possible changes that menopause may entail. Most women, however, have been well met in contact with healthcare and they have received help with potential problems. All women have gotten support from friends or partner.
In conclusion every woman has a different experience of their menopause and the changes it entails. Healthcare professionals should bring the subject up for discussion more often and there is need for further studies regarding female sexual function during and after menopause.
