Sammandrag:
Abstract:
This thesis will examine the Internet as a media platform and marketing on the Internet, with a focus on object behavioural targeting. The aim is to clarify what object behavioural targeting is, what it means and to find out what students think about the topic. Students´ attitudes toward object behavioural targeting on the Internet was examined with quantitative methods in the form of an online survey sent to the respondents via social media, Facebook. The respondents consisted of 291 of my Facebook friends who all represented my target group. The online survey was open for three weeks and consisted of 15 questions and I recived 97 replies. It has been interesting to analyse object behavioural targeting and students´ attitudes towards it. The subject affects all of us and it is a very current topic as the EU deals with directive on people´s privacy matters on the Internet. This thesis consists of relevant articles and reliable sources of information. The survey result showed that the majority of respondents generally perceive advertising on the Internet as disturbing and intrusive, but likes to see advertising that they experience as relevant. A large part of the respondents do not want third parties to track their behaviour on the Internet to provide them with relevant advertising. This shows that there is a need to develop object behavioural targeting on the Internet since a large part of the respondents want to see relevant advertising, but they do not want any third parties tracking their browsing history and to interfere with their privacy on the Internet.
