Mielenterveysongelmien määrä on kasvanut, eikä lisääntyneeseen tuen tarpeeseen pystytä vastaamaan nuoria tyydyttävällä tavalla. The thesis created an overview of the situation of young people in present-day Finland, opened a change in the well-being of youth welfare as well-presented various methods of helping alongside helping networks to support young people. The wishes of the youth were also examined in the thesis and various ways to support the youth were considered as well as efforts to find solutions to improve the well-being of young people were made.
The purpose of the thesis was to identify the reasons for changes in the need for support for young people and mirror them to the situation of the youth of Satakunta. The aim of the thesis was to produce an up-to-date summary of the well-being of young people and pay special attention to the functionality of multi-professional work in youth services. The thesis was guided by three research questions: Why has the need for support for young people increased? What kind of support do young people feel they need? What kind of support young people have received?
The thesis was carried out as a descriptive literature review. The literature search was carried out using various databases such as Theseus, Google Scholar, and manual research. The material of the thesis was analyzed using data-driven content analysis and the quality of the material was assessed using a quality assessment method called CASP.
The results of the literature view showed a worrying increase in the mental malaise and need for support among young people in recent years. The amount of mental health problems has increased and the increased need for support cannot be met in a way that satisfies the youth. The data showed that the needs of young people’s support are diverse, and it is difficult to seek and get help from the service system. Identifying the need for help and seeking for it is largely the young person’s own responsibility. Young people themselves are hoping for low-threshold services as well as support in which genuine encounters, listening and encouragement are considered. Also, the Covid-19-pandemic and the resulting changes in society such as distance learning were seen as a negative influence on youth welfare.
