Tiivistelmä
Kolmivuotisessa, vuosien 2019–2022 aikana toteutetussa CIsumusa-hankkeessa jatkettiin kuulovammaisille tarkoitetun puhemuskaritoiminnan kehittämistä.
The CIsumusa project, which was carried out during 2019–2022, continued the development of the so-called speech music play school for hearing-impaired children and their families. In addition, the project also experimented and developed remotely implemented music play school to enable regional equality. The goals of the project were to support families to add music to their everyday life and help families play music in a way that supports language development and communication skills. Enabling peer support was cited as one of the project’s accompanying objectives.
The qualitative study was conducted in Jyväskylä in the spring of 2021, involving five hearing impaired children and their parents. The aim of the study was to determine whether the goals of the CIsumusa project were fulfilled and how remotely implemented music play school served to realize these objectives.
According to the researcher’s own experience, music pedagogues generally do not have sufficient knowledge of the features of special support needed by hearing-impaired children. Therefore, the thesis aims to increase the awareness of music pedagogues of the factors that affect the music as recreation of a child with hearing impairment, the importance of music for language development, and the special characteristics of music play school for children with hearing impairment.
The founding of study was that as a result of participation in the CIsumusa music play school, the use of music in everyday life increased. Various musical methods supporting language development were used in CIsumusa music play school, giving parents new ideas to play music with their child in a way that supports their language development.
Distance learning caused challenges to children’s focus, and therefore both parents and teachers were required to support the child’s cognitive control. The effects of distance education on interaction may have contributed to the low level of peer support. However, it could be said that the distance learning may have well suited for a hearing-impaired child, as background noise could be minimized, and the volume could be adjusted easily to fit the children’s hearing level. It was easy to attend the music play school remotely from home, increasing the regional equality, which was one of the aims. It can therefore be concluded that many of the objectives of the CIsumusa project were obtained.
