The world has become digitalized and event production is no exception. The way teams communicate has changed and the tools used for communication continue to evolve. This thesis looks at new tools being used within teams to manage the flow of information and improve communication. The thesis makes a specific analysis of the tools offered by the management application Trello and the messaging app Discord. The thesis uses Trello and Discord as examples of the new types of communication tools that are emerging and being used in media productions. The aim of the thesis was to determine how communication will be changed by these tools and how it will affect the way events are produced.
The research was conducted via semi-structured interviews, qualitative anecdotal analysis. In the thesis it was found that some of these new tools offered the possibility for teams to improve their efficiency of communication. However, this was dependent on the users in question and their proclivity towards the adoption of these tools.
The new tools discussed in this thesis are potentially immensely time-saving and conducive to a good work environment. These tools do require the user to spend the time to fully access the tool’s potential. While this new software offers innovative ways to adapt communication within event productions, it remains to be seen if more suitable tools emerge to deal with the needs of event production communications.
