Tiivistelmä
Kirjaston tilamuutoksia tehdään paljon. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on ymmärtää kirjastotyöntekijän roolia kirjaston tilamuutoksessa sekä pohtia miten tilamuutoskokemusta selvittämällä voitaisiin tehdä parempia tilamuutoksia.
Opinnäytetyö on laadullinen tutkimus ja sen menetelmänä käytettiin teemahaastattelua. Työtä varten haastateltiin viittä eri kirjaston tilamuutokseen osallistunutta kirjastotyöntekijää kahdesta eri organisaatiosta. Haastatteluja analysoitiin etsimällä kerätystä aineistosta toistuvia teemoja sekä tekemällä vertailuja ja kontrasteja.
Tutkimuksen mukaan eniten parantamisen varaa löytyi yhteistyön tekemisen tavasta sekä tiedottamisen ja viestinnän puutteista. Kirjaston tilamuutoksen suunnitteluvaiheessa kannattaisikin kiinnittää huomiota henkilökunnan ja asiakkaiden parempaan osallistamiseen. Tilamuutoksen tiedottamiselle olisi hyvä olla suunnitelma ja jaetut vastuualueet, jotta taattaisiin mahdollisimman hyvä tiedonkulku tilamuutoksen eri toimijoiden välillä. Tutkimuksessa korostui, että kirjastotyöntekijän rooli kirjaston tilamuutoksessa on tärkeä mahdollisimman toimivan lopputuloksen aikaansaamiseksi, niin asiakkaalle kuin henkilökunnalle. Library buildings are frequently remodeled and refurbished. The subject of the thesis is the role of library workers in library´s alteration project. The goal is to understand that role and to gain knowledge on how to best improve libraries´ alteration projects.
The approach of this thesis is qualitative, and the research method used was theme interview. Five library workers, representing two different organizations, were interviewed for the study. They had all participated in a library alteration project. The interviews were analyzed by searching recurrent themes and by making comparisons and contrasts from the gathered research material.
According to the results of this study, the shortcomings in communication and cooperation are the biggest obstacles in library´s alteration project and need to be improved the most. When planning a library alteration, it is worth it to actively include the staff and the customers in the planning process as much as possible. The project should have a plan of action for communication to ensure the flow of information between different participants. The study found that the role of library workers in their library´s alteration project is vital in creating a functional library space for both the customers and the staff.
