Background: COVID-19 outbreak occurred in 2019, gradually spreading to countries worldwide. The novel infectious virus is a severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus species. The sudden onset of the coronavirus has created enormous challenges for nurses. Shortage of medical resources; ignorance of the virus; susceptibility to infection; the body takes a huge blow. The spreading outbreak presents enormous challenges for healthcare workers in the work environment. Within two years, various vaccine alternatives have entered the market to slow the spread of the virus and protect vaccinated people from a sever and hospital-requiring symptoms. In addition, the virus has evolved and mutated into several differ- ent variants that have reduced the vaccine's effectiveness. The latest variant of the OMICRON virus has exploded the number of infections that have increased the workload of hospitals and nursing staff. The pandemic has brought congestion to many hospitals, and treatment facilities are running low.
Task and objective: This study aims to analyze the reasons for the challenges faced by healthcare workers. This literature review distills the causes of challenges among front-line nursing staff, Increasing awareness of nurses’ health and wellbeing.
Implementation method: The literature review was the research method in this thesis—selecting articles from PubMed, CINAHL, and Medline from the JAMK library. The choice of items is based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Conclusion: Understanding what makes the sudden onslaught of COVID-19 creates job challenges for nurses, like lack of healthcare equipment, high infection risk levels, and limited information about the SARS-COV-2 virus. The findings suggest that national healthcare systems need to provide adequate medical equipment, defenses, and information on virus prevention for treatment.
