This thesis describes the methods and the execution of a waste composition analysis of bio waste and combustible waste at Ab Stormossen Oy. In September 2012 there was a change in the waste sorting system. The new sorting system means that the waste is sorted into bio waste and combustible waste instead of into kitchen waste and coarse waste. The purpose of the waste composition analysis is to find out how the new sorting system works within Stormossen´s area of activity. The result of the waste compsition analysis will be used as a basis when giving information and guidance to the inhabitants in Stormossen´s area of activity. The result will also be used to improve the quality of the residue over time. This is possible because in the waste composition analysis you get to know exactly what the waste consists of and in that way you can optimise the waste treatment. The types of waste that were analysed are bio waste and combustible waste from houses with four or more apartments, combustible waste from detached houses and bio waste from industries and supermarkets. Combustible waste from recycling facilities were also analysed. The thesis describes the sampling methods, the carrying out and the results of the waste composition analysis for the different kinds of waste. The results of the waste composition analysis showed that the new sorting system works, but there is room for some improvement.
