This is a diary-type thesis that follows the author's professional development as working in a Finnish technology start-up for an emerging economy for eight weeks observation period. The thesis consists of the introduction, description of the initial situation, diary entries, discussion, and conclusions. The introduction part focuses mainly on the company and its product. In addition, it provides background information about the author and a brief discussion of the product.
The description of the initial situation section is a summary of my current work analysis. In addition, the section briefly mentions different internal and external stakeholders who form the group of people the author mainly interacts with. The last part of this section explains common tools or methods used for communication between different parties within the project.
The diary entries are separated weekly and consist of daily tasks, challenges reports, and weekly analyses. The main tasks were related to software development, scrum master, sales and business start-up, and management. And the discussion and conclusion focus on the assessment of the initial situation and developments during the diary report.
The observation period was 06.06.2022-29.07.2022. The main objective of this thesis was to demonstrate the daily practices and challenges of software development in a start-up. The focus was daily tasks, learning activities, overcoming challenges, time management, communication, sales, leadership, starting a tech business, and improving the author's skills in scrum master and customer-oriented software development. Writing this thesis was an interesting journey. The author has learned a better understanding of customer-oriented software development and challenges within a tech start-up. It led to improving the author's competency in tech business and software development processes.
