Starting e-business in Bangladesh : An opportunity for an entrepreneur

The focus of this thesis was on examining the state of e-commerce in Bangladesh, and the challenges that entrepreneurs seeking to invest in the e-business in the country would face. Also, the study sought to examine the awareness of citizens on e-commerce, as this is critical in projecting the reception of the economy towards e-businesses.
The thesis conducted a quantitative research survey. The quantitative research process involved the administration of questionnaires to respondents. Fifty respondents took part in the study, and they included business people as well as the general public.
The results indicated that Bangladesh has grown significantly since e-commerce was introduced in the country in 2009. Also, the public are not well versed with the laws and policies on e- commerce, which is a challenge to people who would want to start an e-business in the country. The other revelation was that safety and security concerns in using online transactions was affecting adoption of e-commerce in the country.
The thesis recommends that the government addresses some of the concerns that the public and businesses could have regarding e-commerce and create awareness about the legislation and policies that are supporting application of e- commerce in the country.
