Tiivistelmä
Healthcare professionals are in a great risk of stress and lower levels of wellbeing especially in hospital settings. Generally, this is because of increasing work-load and work-related demands, shortage of nurses and other diminishing resources. The difficult working conditions and fatigue it creates, have reportedly a significant impact on nurses and patient safety as well as the quality of care provided. Nevertheless, there are some useful interventions to improve and protect the well-being of nurses.

The purpose was to conduct a literature review on the subject. The objective of the study was to identify factors that support nurses’ occupational wellbeing and quality of life in hospital settings and provide information that would help nurses to cope better at work.

The study was conducted as a descriptive literature review. The data was collected using one database CINAHL. In total of 164 articles were reviewed; 10 articles were analysed using thematic analysis method.

The results of the analysis indicated that nurses’ work-related wellbeing was supported by many different factors, main ones being social support, working conditions and self-management strategies. The findings suggested that these factors could help nurses with stress management and coping which enhances their working life and overall wellbeing.

In conclusion, nursing is highly important profession and therefore actions to support nurses’ wellbeing is needed in order to ensure good quality of care. There are many things an individual can do to enhance their own wellbeing at work, but some issues need an organisational approach.
