Tiivistelmä
The research objectives were to find out the advantageous effect of using social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and how it helped students to improve their learning process and their health and well-being. Surveys were given out to about 8 students to find out if they had realized the advantages of social media, the platform of social media that they normally use, and how social media was used in university.

The research design used Facebook as an example to study activities in social network platforms. The results showed that social presence and group standards were the most crucial factors in We-Intention to use Facebook.

The theoretical framework focused on the usage of social media in higher education and student’s life and gave suggestions for how to utilize social media in university better. Then, it defined social media, showed how social media helps in the time of Covid-19, showed the reason students use Facebook and the related theory behind it, and demonstrated the application of social media in higher education. Following on, a wordlist and explanation of different terms were involved. The theoretical framework included the key concepts: social media, distance learning, and remote monitoring, social influence, social presence, WeIntention, social media in higher education.

The outcome of the thesis was based on research using both qualitative and quantitative methods, which included the experiences, knowledge, and thoughts of eight students from different Helsinki UAS. To get a valued understanding of the viewpoint of students on social media at the university, the surveys were conducted over two weeks with interviews and instructions on open questions. The surveys focused on the student's background, collecting information, social media platforms using, time spent on social media per week, how social media has been used in connection with studies, experience on how social media has been used in students’ life in general.

The results of the research were how SoMe had been utilized in the connection with the studies, and if it had improved students’ learning process. Also, the results were to collect students’ ideas on ways to use SoMe to improve the learning process. Then, the overall goal was to evaluate how SoMe could support improving students’ life and well-being.
