The purpose of the thesis was to brainstorm the UI and UX of a DIY accounting tool and then lay the groundwork for the UI components to be used in the software. The software would be a web app. It would contain scrollable blocks of invoices and receipts, that the user can see and use to do their own accounting. The thesis was completed under the organization Talenom Oy.
The research method used is mostly practically based. Testing out different component libraries to find the most optimal and well-fitting for the task at hand. A developers’ survey was also performed to provide additional data for the thesis.
The tool is to be used by the customers of Talenom Oy to fulfill their accounting needs by themselves. The research question of how we can provide this tool to the customers was the primary objective of the thesis. Later, the process becomes technical to figure out the characteristics and usability of a shared components library. The components are made in the JavaScript framework; React.js. Lastly, the thesis discusses the process of building an infinitely scrollable UI as well.
After the initial development of the thesis, the DIY accounting software has reached a decent stage. It is constantly being tested by a pool of testers. The functionalities and usage is being tested by internal employees and the feedback is monitored. Currently, the feedback for the software is positive. The infinitely scrollable UI has been working as expected and no bugs or crashes have been reported for the same. The design of the UI and its current implementation has been successful in providing customers with DIY accounting services.
