The possibility of future crisis in passenger air transportation industry in Eastern Europe due to the Russian invasion in Ukraine in 2022

In the past few years tourism management industry has faced different difficulties due to economic crises. When travelers were ready to pack their suitcases again and explore after COVID-19, a new crisis appeared that may interrupt their plans.
On 24th of February 2022 Russia has started a military invasion in Ukraine, that caused new restrictions and difficulties not only in tourism management field, but the whole worlds’ economic stability. Sanctions caused airspace closures up to certain countries, fuel price increase, inflation and other confines that may affect the industry in a long term. Especially in Eastern European countries, that are located around Ukraine, where the war takes its place.
Given these aspects, the study is aimed to analyze the changes and predict a possibility of crisis that may happen in passenger air transportation industry and airlines of Easter Europe based on the statistics of cur- rent tourists’ flow comparing to previous years, definition of a crisis and other factors.
Results of this work show that changes vary from country to country and shows three scenarios and time- lines of recovery for Eastern Europe.
