PDM-järjestelmään pohjautuvan tuotekonfiguraattorin kehitys

Abstract

Kilpailu teollisessa tuotannossa on kovaa, ja pysyäkseen kilpailussa mukana yritysten on mietittävä uusia tapoja tuotannon tehostamiseen ja myynnin edistämiseen. Erilaisten tuotekonfiguraattoreiden käyttö usein nopeuttaa tilaus-toimitusprosessia, vähentää virheellisen tiedon määrää ja vapauttaa suunnittelijoiden aikaa tuotekehitykseen. Käyttäjä valitsee haluamansa optiot, ja niiden perusteella konfiguraattori luo kokoonpanon käyttäen tarvittavia komponentteja. Konfiguraattori sopii hyvin niin myynnin kuin tuotannonkin työkaluksi.

Tämän työn tavoitteena oli luoda yleinen käsitys konfiguraattorin toimintaperiaatteesta sekä sen asettamista vaatimuksista tuotteille ja niiden suunnittelulle. Työ tehtiin muotoilu- ja tuotekehitysyritys Creo Centerille. Työn teoriaosuudessa kerrotaan konfiguraattorin toiminnasta ja käsitellään konfigurointiin läheisesti liittyviä käsitteitä - massaräätälöintiä, modularisointia sekä tuotetiedonhallintaa. Sen lisäksi tutustutaan konfiguraattorin suunnitteluprojektin toteutukseen Creo Centerillä sekä pohditaan konfiguraattorin käytön haasteita, etuja ja mahdollisuuksia Creo Centerin asiakkaan näkökulmasta.

Creo Centerin ja PDSVISIONin toteuttama konfiguraattori on edullisempi kuin valmiina paketteina myytävät konfiguraattorit. Konfiguraattori on nopeampi ja kevyempi, sillä se sisällyttää tuoterakenteeseen vain sen vaatimat komponentit. Lisäksi se on helposti muokattavissa asiakkaan tarpeiden ja kehitysideoiden mukaan. Projekti oli haastava, mutta asetetut tavoitteet saavutettiin ja samalla luotiin hyvä pohja jatkokehitykselle.

To differentiate themselves from the competition, companies must be innovative. They need to develop new ideas on how to optimize production efficiency and increase the sales. The use of product configurators expedites the order and delivery process, decreases the amount of false information, and allows more time for product development. The user defines the desired options and based on the selection the configurator creates the assembly using the necessary components. Configurators are excellent tools for both sales and production.

The objective of this thesis was to create a basic understanding of configurators and the requirements it sets on products and design processes. The thesis was commissioned by Creo Center, a design and product development agency. The theory section explains the functionalities of a configurator and explains concepts closely related to configuration, such as mass customization, modularization, and product data management. The second part of the thesis covers the development of a product configurator at Creo Center and discusses the challenges and opportunities regarding the use of configurators from the customer’s point of view.

The product configurator created by Creo Center and PDSVISION is less expensive than the configurator packages on the market. The configurator uses only chosen components in the product assembly, making it faster and lighter. It can be easily modified according to the customer’s needs. The project was challenging but the objectives were met with solid ground for further development.
