Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis is to give an overview of remote working methods in music production. It is meant to serve as a guide for music producers and creators to help with remote workflows and explore the possibilities that new technologies provide for this line of work.
The study was able to find the utility-value of different remote working methods in music recording and production and also evaluate the obstacles these methods introduce. The goal was to find the best current working methods to execute creative and technical music work remotely. In conclusion, the study found that remote work is mostly preferred in less creative mechanical work (i.e mixing, programming, post-production) and it was found more unpopular in creative work such as songwriting.
The study utilized interview data from industry experts and sources from various professional blogposts, internet-articles and literature. The thesis includes a media part with three musical samples where these techniques have been used in at least one manner.
