Audio integration using Zello application : upgrading the PTT application

Abstract

Integration is of utmost importance in the highly modularized software architecture in digital devices such as IoT or smart-systems where distributed development becomes necessary when different components (hardware/software) work together to achieve a common goal. With the emergence of new digital transformations, organizations have adapted to reduce their IT complexity and boost their business performance. So, companies are integrating different technologies to enhance their ecosystem. Zello is an example of such an organization which provides enhanced audio communication i.e., Push-to-Talk audio communication. Zello uses the Opus audio library which provides high-quality and low-latency audio communication. Their software products are widely used by many big organizations, where seamless communication is an important aspect.

The thesis aimed to establish a direct connection between the Push to talk device and the Zello audio application by unlocking features that benefit both organizations. The steps to achieve the goals involve running sample codes, usage of libraries e.g., LibWebSockets to establish socket connection and code functions to control the Zello dashboard. The result was a Zello audio API, which is integrated with the Push-to-talk device in consideration.
