Tiivistelmä
Due to a global pandemic that started in 2019, all companies needed to shift their work-space to remote working. The purpose of this thesis is to find out what kind of impact remote work has on employees’ motivation and productivity. This study analyses six interviews from six different agents from the Customer Support team at Supermetrics Oy. The interview questions aim to find out whether employees are overall happy or unhappy working remotely and, moreover, how remote work allows to communicate and access data. Both the research conducted for this thesis and previous literature show that employees have a better work-life balance when working remotely. They feel they have a more flexible work schedule as they can work from the comfort of their homes. They also enjoy the communication with other colleagues. On the other hand, this work-life balance has a thin line, and, in some case, it can lead to negative effects. Even though you can easily communicate online, when remote work is imposed and is done “full-time” it can make employees feel a sense of loneliness and social isolation. In addition, it can cause distractions/lack of focus due to, for example, children, husband/wife etc. or having hobbies closer by. Moreover, it can cause employees to work overtime, and find harder to separate work from leisure as they work in the same place/location.
