Tiivistelmä
I am going to explain in my thesis how corona pandemic affects the tourism industry as well as another economic sector of Nepal. Nepal announced 2020 as the year of the national festival visit to Nepal, and the Government of Nepal also started the visit to Nepal 2020 at Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu on January 1.
The word "Tourism" has been derived from the French word "Tourisme'' literally meaning ‘to travel’ to the related fields. Later, this word was popularized in the decade 1930s, but its significance was not fully realized. Definition ‘Tour’ is known as a journey from place to place for pleasure. Tourism has been defined in various ways. Some authors describe tourism as a system. Tourism is a system of four interrelated parts such as market, travel destination and marketing, and customer.
COVID -19 not only affected the tourism sector but also created problems in manufacturing and foreign trade and remittance. However, other sectors except for tourism partly run during the COVID pandemic. Tourism sectors such as trekking, rafting, and mountaineering jungle safari were closed during COVID. The tourism sector is the most affected area by COVID-19. Around 20,000 tours, trekking, and mountaineering guides lost their jobs. For the first time in history, almost all the domestic and international tourism destinations had restrictions for travel worldwide because of the coronavirus pandemic. The coronavirus disease called the COVID-19 pandemic is an ongoing problem in more than 195 countries in the world. The World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a public health emergency of international concern in March 2020 and a pandemic on 11 March 2020 after which lockdown measures began to be exercised. Such measures have allowed the functioning only of essential sectors to decrease the speed of virus transmission in the country. COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused coronavirus by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The First confirmed case has been traced back to 17 November 2019 in Hubei, China. COVID-19 has given a significant impact on economic development worldwide. According to the Tourism Economic Report, the effects of Covid-19 are expected to extend for eight months and result in a decrease of 39% in the global tourism volume. The tourism industry is expected to recover soon with the figures showing recovery as of March 2022.
