The objective of this work was to make clear the effects of invasive species that linger within ballast water onboard a vessel. In what ways is it possible for vessels to counteract and preserve the natural sea area and life by making ballast water safe from invasive species. The different ways ballast water is being treated for neutralizing the microorganisms.
The other part of this work was the user experience what was derived from the crew onboard the vessels. Has the crew adopted the new ballast water management and the extra work that it brings along with it?
The technical side of this work consisted of research into the treatment facilities and the effects of ballast water around the world. The user experience was measured by drafting and sending a survey to different shipping companies and the answers were given by the crew onboard the vessels.
The ballast water management convention has had a positive impact on preserving the natural sea life of an area and controlled the spreading of invasive species by the implementation of ballast water treatment. Users certainly have had a positive experience with the ballast water machinery and the user interface. The crew has adopted the rules and regulations of ballast water management.
