Aspects of web accessibility

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to create a web accessibility guideline for pro-grammers. The objective was to examine all the aspects that affect website ac-cessibility by considering the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level A (minimal compliance), AA (acceptable compliance), and AAA (opti-mal compliance) guidelines, literature, and research journals related to the sub-ject, among other things. Disabled users and a majority of the population would benefit from web accessibility. During the course of the work, most websites did not meet the WCAG 2 standards and there was a paucity of research on web accessibility. The current WCAG severely lacked a visual illustration, thus mo-tivating the present study.

The visual guideline presented herein is beneficial for all programmers who would like to create an accessible website. The visual implementations of the elements of web accessibility are made according to the WCAG 2.1 level A, AA, and AAA of each element's success criterion using Figma, HTML, and CSS code. Each visual implementation shows which success criterion/criteria it sat-isfies and the users it benefits.

Audio and video elements of an accessible website are not included in this research. During the research process, WCAG 2.2 is yet to be finalized. Future WCAG 2.2 research and visual illustrations may be carried out to help individ-uals make the web more inclusive of all people and to increase public aware-ness on web accessibility.
