The thesis deals with the processing and transport of delimbed energy wood from the road stock of energy thinning objects to terminals or the final usage location (heat and power plants). The compared transport resources are timber trucks, wood chip trucks and trucks transporting logging residue. The survey also includes a comparison of the unladen weights and loading capacities of these transport resources. The data of the survey originates from before the renewed decree came into force in October 2013. Prior to that, the overall weight of transport resources was 60 tons. In addition to this, the impact of moisture content on forest fuel energy was examined. A case study is presented in a table.
Data was gathered from different weight load reports in Stora Enso's database. The vehicles used in the survey were decided by drawing lots among the timber trucks that visited the mills at Heinola, Anjalankoski and Sunila during the period of June to August 2013. All wood chip trucks running to the mill in Heinola during the same period were selected.
The survey results show that the timber truck has the highest transport capacity of the different means of transport. The wood chip truck comes second in the survey, while the performance of trucks transporting logging residue was the worst since its unladen weight with the truck crane had the highest value. The case study of moisture effect on the energy content shows that the higher the moisture content is, the less amount of energy can be transported.
