Project management instruction : theoretical and practical study

Abstract

This thesis focuses on two main problems that today are unsettlingly common, documentation complexity and the dilemma with efficient use of instructions within companies. The current project management instruction used by the company is outdated and is in some parts seen as a hindrance by the project managers. A long-term goal of this thesis is making the document robust and continuously improving and adapting when new ways of working arise in order to create tenable and helpful instruction.

The aim of this thesis was to study how to effectively write an instruction that will be seen and used as a tool within project management. In the process, the instructions were re-written to make the ways of working more fluent and effective. The ambition was to make it seen and used as a tool and not a hindrance for the project managers. This thesis was commissioned by the company WesDyne Sweden AB (WDS) based in Täby, Sweden.

The methods used in this thesis were interviews with appropriate persons within the company and the parent company for a broader spectrum. In addition to interviews a survey was sent out and evaluated which provided a good foundation for information and opinions amongst the project managers.

As a result of this thesis a robust, easily comprehensible and fluent project management instruction has been implemented in the commissioned company.

Denna avhandling fokuserar på två huvudproblem som idag är oroande vanliga, dokumentationskomplexitet och dilemmat med effektiv användning av instruktioner inom företag. Den nuvarande projektledningsinstruktionen som företaget använder är föråldrad och ses i vissa delar som ett hinder av projektledarna. Ett långsiktigt mål med denna uppsats är att göra dokumentet robust och ständigt förbättra och anpassa det när nya arbetssätt uppstår för att skapa en hållbar och hjälpsam instruktion.

Syftet med detta examensarbete var att studera hur man effektivt kan skriva en instruktion som kommer att ses och användas som ett verktyg inom projektledning. Under processen skrevs instruktionen om för att göra arbetssätten mer flytande och effektiva. Ambitionen var att få instruktionen att ses och användas som ett verktyg och inte ett hinder för projektledarna. Detta examensarbete har gjorts på uppdrag av företaget WesDyne Sweden AB (WDS) baserat i Täby, Sverige.

Metoderna som användes i denna uppsats var intervjuer med lämpliga personer inom företaget och moderbolaget för ett bredare spektrum. Utöver intervjuer skickades och utvärderades en enkätundersökning som gav ett bra underlag för information och åsikter bland projektledarna.

Som ett resultat av detta examensarbete har en robust, lättförståelig och flytande projektledningsinstruktion implementerats i uppdragsföretaget.
