Tiivistelmä
The working environment has changed dramatically due to Covid-19, however, in addition to this, the war in Ukraine has impacted the world in a negative way. Especially, the Finnish aviation industry faced quite severe impacts. This, in turn, has affected aviation professionals in the terms of deterioration of working conditions. As a result of this, aviation professionals have started to rethink their careers and in some cases, craving new challenges in some other industries.

The topic “Quiet Quitting in Finnish Aviation Industry” was chosen as the Quiet Quitting phenomenon has been discussed since Covid-19 started. The author wanted to discover how all of the above-mentioned issues have affected aviation professionals in the Finnish aviation industry and how they feel about Quiet Quitting. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the main factors for quiet quitting, thus, the author desired to find the root causes of the phenomenon. Also, the aim was to search for aspects that could prevent from the trend occurring and therefore provide proposals for the Finnish aviation companies on how they could improve their way of working to engage their employees better.

The theoretical framework deals with the leading indicators and factors for quiet quitting and also the previous studies in Finland about the topic are introduced. Moreover, the theoretical part presents the actions towards quiet quitting and the implications that it might cause for the employer, employee, and also for customers. The research was conducted during February and March 2023 and it was open for 15 days. The questionnaire included 15 quantitative questions and 2 qualitative questions. The target group was all the aviation professionals currently working or previously had worked in the Finnish aviation industry. The questionnaire received 420 responses which indicates that the topic was relevant and aroused a massive interest.

The research showed that the two most mentioned key leading factors are a lack of respect toward the employee and a lack of faith in the employer. Additionally, the heavy workload was mentioned in numerous responses. The factors listed that could prevent this phenomenon were better management, more flexibility, and more money.

Based on the whole research project this paper proved that employers should improve their work by respecting their employees more and building trust again to employees to engage them again with their employer. Stabilizing the workload could affect positively the motivation and engagement for the duties and the company. Also, improvements to achieve better management would need more investigations.
