This work was based on thoughts about the need for a guide to explain how to use and access certain functions on different ECDIS systems at the schools ship simulator.
The aim of the thesis was to research which functions on ECDIS are difficult to use and access and the possibility of making a guide on how to access and use them. The research on which functions to use in the guide was done by interviewing simulator instructors and asking students via a questionnaire, after a prototype guide was made, it was tested by giving it to students using the simulator.
The results of this thesis were that a majority of students had issues with finding certain functions and that a guide was needed, the final guide was a guide linked with QR-codes watchable on YouTube. When the work was finished and the guides were ready the 4 completed guides were handed over to the school.
