Tiivistelmä
The use of mobile devices as part of daily record-keeping has increased over the years. Recording remotely next to the patient i.e., in the state of mobility has demonstrated positive outcomes in daily nursing work. The research has the following aims: the first aim of this study was to investigate what kind of negative and positive outcomes Medanets’ mobile application has to the daily work of healthcare professionals. The second aim was to indicate possible areas for the development of the application and offer actions proposals. The third aim was to study what are the key factors that positively and negatively affected net impacts.
The study utilized Delone’s and Mclean’s (D&M) information system success model. Health care professionals (n=36) already using the mobile application answered a websurvey. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used in the research to achieve a broader understanding of the topic. The survey consisted of 23 closed questions and four open-ended questions. Closed questions were analyzed with descriptive statistics and open-ended questions through content analysis.
Using the mobile application had more positive than negative outcomes on the daily work of healthcare professionals. Users found the application to be a versatile and useful tool in daily nursing work. The app has accelerated the daily record keeping by reducing double recording and enabling instant access to patient data on site (medication, vital signs etc.) Negative outcome of using the application’s was its unreliability time to time. The professionals brought several further development targets and among them, improving network connection and performance functionality rose to the top of development targets.
The results of this study revealed how, in addition to the application, many other factors, such as working network connection, software updates and whether operating methods (process descriptions) have been modified during implementation phase, affect the user experience. Based on this study the importance of implementation is emphasized.
