Tiivistelmä
This thesis aims to research how to make an online financial consulting business profitable, by providing the services on freelancing platforms such as Upwork and Fiverr. These platforms have grown immensely over the last few years, further emphasized by lockdowns and subsequent remote work, as well as a general tendency among workers to demand the opportunity to work from home. This combined with technological advances have changed the working landscape. This thesis investigates how already successful businesses has reached profitability and success in this endeavor, using both quantitative and qualitative research, using surveys and financial data.
The outcome of the research shows that there are common denominators found among businesses, or rather the people behind them, who have achieved success in this field. The general outlook of work seems to be highly positive among the entrepreneurs who have responded to the surveys conducted in this research. They have a highly self-evaluating and problem-solving mindset and are usually oriented towards goals and producing results. Successful freelancing entrepreneurs are, in other words, not only skilled experts in their field, but have personal traits that make them more aligned for success. This is a result of a special type of mindset, found in almost all the respondents, and working towards their business goals with a solutionist type of attitude.
