Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis was to identify if UI/UX design principles can be successfully applied to data analysis and reporting. The thesis sought to analyse if data and analytics reports created within the company adhere to UI/UX design standards and how their usability can be enhanced. Moreover, it seeks to develop a scalable design pack and framework that enable the company's developers to create unified, high-quality reports while reducing the time required to generate them. The thesis was commissioned by a data analytics and consultancy company for the heavy industry, Rovjok Oy.
The initial stage of this study outlines the usability-related UI/UX design principles applicable to data analytics and digital products. The thesis proceeds by analysing an existing report provided by the company and its adherence to the design principles. The thesis then develops an alternate version of the report, with enhanced adherence to the design guidelines and aesthetics. The effectiveness and usability of this version are evaluated in the usability test. Furthermore, a scalable design pack and template are developed based on the user test results.
The research indicates that the proposed solution and design improve usability and credibility of data analytics reports, as well as simplify and streamline the process of their development. Moreover, it positively impacts the company’s image, which appears as more professional and trustworthy, and provides tangible benefits for the company's profitability.
