Tiivistelmä
This is a project-based thesis for the Haaga-Helia Bachelor’s Degree Programme in International Business
This thesis explores the process of building a sustainability report for St1, a Finnish energy company. The study aims to demonstrate the importance of using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework as a guideline for sustainability reporting, which is widely recognized and accepted by stakeholders worldwide.
The research methodology includes a review of existing literature on sustainability reporting and GRI guidelines, as well as an analysis of St1's sustainability practices and their current reporting practices. The study is based on a project-based approach, where the author, as an intern at St1, works with the company's sustainability team to build a comprehensive sustainability report using the GRI framework.
The findings of the study demonstrate the effectiveness of using GRI guidelines to structure a sustainability report, enabling the company to communicate its sustainability practices and performance more effectively to stakeholders. The report also highlights St1's commitment to sustainability and its efforts to reduce its environmental impact, improve social responsibility, and maintain good governance practices.
The thesis emphasises the importance of sustainability reporting as a means of transparency and accountability for companies. Using the GRI framework helps companies to identify and prioritize their sustainability goals and communicate them effectively to stakeholders. The study provides a practical guide for building a sustainability report using the GRI framework and highlights the benefits of adopting such an approach.
