Tiivistelmä
The global coffee industry has been facing increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices throughout the entire value chain, including packaging. Sustainability in coffee packaging involves the use of environmentally-friendly materials, reducing waste, and minimizing the carbon footprint of the production process. This thesis aims to develop a guideline for sustainable coffee packaging requirements for direct exportation to Sweden from Mexico. The methodology involves qualitative research, on the development of sustainable packaging methologies and related internal and external characteristics, and the quantitative research on policies and requirements by legal frameworks on sustainability packaging for coffee.

The findings of the study show that sustainable coffee packaging practices in Mexico and Sweden are similar due to the international demands that coffee exporters in Mexico require in order to achieve better benefits, income, and business relationships in the destination countries. However, Swedish regulations continues demand for packaging sustainability forces the constant update of this regulations.

The implications and significance of this research lie in the development of sustainable packaging for coffee, which will enable better eco-friendly activities and socially responsible business practices. Sustainable coffee packaging is the next step in building green coffee in the international context, and this research can provide guidance on the materials, production, and innovation required for sustainable coffee packaging. By developing sustainable coffee packaging, coffee companies in Mexico can meet the demands of international markets such as Sweden, improve their business practices, and contribute to the global sustainability efforts.
