Over the past decades, mobile phones have become an indispensable tool and their usage have been growing from a simple communication tool to a gaming platform among others. Nowadays, people are not required to own a console or a PC to be able to play video games and every day, new titles are released on mobiles. The Internet has made it possible for games, in different country, to hit the international market. Although shared in many parts of the world, some games do not seem to perform as well once released internationally. Cultural differences, differences in the user interface might play a role for their downfall.
The theoretical framework of this thesis begins with an explanation of the importance of user interface and user experience followed by an overview of different theories and principles which might be of an affect when users are facing an app coming from another part of the world. With the information of the theoretical framework and the direct comparison of two video games coming from two sides of the world, we will have a vision on the understanding of how cultural aspects might create differences in the reactions users are having.
The thesis provides a clear comparison and contrast between two different video games which have been developed in different part of the world. It also highlights the different aspects of one’s culture which might have an effect when facing user interface. The findings of this thesis shows that people might expect different placements or icons when opening a mobile game.
